Elocution Lessons - or simply steps to make yourself heard at workElocution has existed for centuries as a way of helping people to speak with increased clarity and finesse. But can some simple elocution training or voice coaching lessons actually help to improve your impact when you talk today? And does it genuinely have some place in business instruction? Try some of the quite simple exercises in this and a followup article to see for yourself if elocution or voice coaching might provide you with a means of creating more impact next time you are speaking. Elocution Training One - Breathing & RelaxationFirstly we will try and relax and have a few deep breaths. OK? And when you breathe in deeply do not move your shoulders too much but inhale from your belly (or stomach). Ready? OKAY... Breathe in..... deeply... remember to make use of your stomach... and now wait a couple of seconds.... then breathe out slowly.... and count out aloud while you do it... ... 1... two... 3... 4... 5... 6... 7... 8... 9... 10... ... 11... 12... 13... fourteen... 15... 16... 17... 18... nineteen... 20. Try and count completely to 20 as you inhale out. OK normal breath within again... and out. Now lets try the breathing exercise again and count slowly completely to 20. So... Breathe within..... deeply... and... wait a couple of seconds.... then breathe out slowly.... and count out aloud while you do it... 1... 2... 3... four... 5... 6... 7... 8... 9... 10... ... 11... 12... 13... fourteen... 15... 16... 17... 18... nineteen... 20. .... try and count completely to 20 as you inhale out. Elocution Lesson Two -- Text ReadingHow about reading away some text aloud? OK? Print out this site. Then Find yourself a space where you wont be disrupted - or overheard!. Now browse the following paragraph: -It was an attractive day in more ways compared to one when Gerry finally chose to ask Sally to marry him or her. The Summer weather had right now settled down and although there have been still a few clouds within the sky, it was a really bright, blue sky that greeted them because they left the motel. Gerry took Sally through the arm and embraced her. And for the reason that moment, he knew they were intended for each other. Now read it again but this time around think about how much the mouth area is opening. Try and open the mouth area as wide as possible whenever you speak each word. In fact try and talk each word individually and not included in a sentence. Try and make each word sound clear as you possibly can. Try and "spit" out each one of the words. OK that probably seems somewhat strange! What we want to do there is to make each word possess a beginning and an end. Oftentimes when we speak we "slurrrrrr" our speech and don't take enough effort to articulate each word clearly enough. So lets repeat the paragraph again. This time reading it in general piece of text (not person words without meaning) and which makes it sound as exciting (and emotional) a moment for Jerry as you can. And how did that sound for you?
