Several years ago a expecting young cat was rescued on the farm in Palm City, FL and was delivered to Domino's House, a no-kill cage-free kitty rescue and adoption facility. Following a day of rest she presented to us an attractive litter of grey/white, black/white kittens which we named following the novel Charlotte's web. One associated with her handsome kittens was called Avery. Avery was adopted with a fine family who had a son. Five years later we obtained a call from Avery's owner who stated that people must take Avery back because he was ruining the the next door neighbors screen door when he proceeded to go outside which, apparently, was constantly. When mother and son made an appearance at Domino's door with Avery held tightly within the son's arms, the mother lifted Avery through her son's arms and quickly handed Avery in my experience. The little boy had no indisputable fact that Avery was to stay beside me now and I can nevertheless hear his voice crying, "No, abs
olutely no - not my Avery!!!! " I often wonder when the boy ever forgave his mother on her candid act. At Domino's House Avery isn't just a very happy, healthy kitty but he's a job!! Avery is our therapy cat together with his friend and volunteer at Domino's Kitty Rescue League, Sally Booth. Twice per month Avery adorns his harness as well as his "handsome man" collar and off they're going to Palm City Nursing as well as Rehab Center. The residents and staff usually look eagerly for Sally and Avery to reach and visit with all that care to pet and speak with our little therapy guy. Being an ambassador of Domino's House, Avery has impacted many residents -- some inside a small way and some in a fashion that can change the mind as well as spirit. On one particular go to, Sally decided to take Avery right into a room where an older woman was sitting inside a wheel chair mute, as she had been for a while. When asked if she want to hold Avery, there was no response and nursing sta
ff had mentioned previously to Sally that this lady hadn't responded to anyone in quite a long time. Sally, overlooking the resident's prior non-response, placed Avery in the woman's lap. Immediately, the lady relocated her hand across Avery's back again with obvious pleasure. This scenario was repeated for a while and when Avery was raised off her lap, the lady organized her arms as if to express she wanted to hold him once again. Two weeks passed and during another trip to the Nursing Home, the nurses greeted Sally using the news that the lady that had shown no response for a while was now talking and, actually, waiting to receive Avery in her lap once again! Thousands of nursing home and hospices worldwide are finding therapy dogs and cats have made an incredible number of smiles and hope for their own community. Sally said, "The hours spent in the bedside of the residents has changed my entire life. I realize a simple gesture has made an enormous impact, allowing senior
citizens a fulfilling experience within their daily lives".
